Bleeding After Ovulation

After-ovulation bleeding is vaginal discharge that usually contains small amount of pinkish or brownish blood. The phenomenon of after-ovulation bleeding is often associated with implantation bleeding, though only about a third of all pregnant women experience it. This kind of bleeding is very often mixed with menstrual bleeding as well. So let us figure out what implantation bleeding is in order to indicate what is happening to your organism.

Implantation Bleeding

When you experience this kind of bleeding, there is often the feeling that it is a period with light cramps, but the bleeding is shorter and lighter. Each woman should understand that implantation bleeding is a result of implantation of the egg cell, which occurs in the end of implantation process. Normally implantation bleeding takes place about four weeks after the last menstrual period, it is usually less and darker than normal menstruation. Implantation bleeding doesn’t effect on a pregnancy at all, although some scientists doubt the existence of implantation bleeding. If you search for implantation bleeding you will find information with doubts if it ever occurs. But there is no denying the fact that some women, have a bleeding about four weeks after the last menstrual period with a pregnancy duration four weeks longer than expected.

It may be caused by the fertilized egg burrowing into the wall of your uterus, a process that starts just six days after fertilization, but no one knows for sure. The bleeding is very light, lasting only a day or two, and only a minority of pregnant women have this kind of spotting. It can happen at the time the fertilized egg implants in the uterus, on average between six to twelve days past ovulation. Unless accompanied by cramping, backache or increased bleeding, a small amount of blood being discharged should be considered as implantation bleeding, which is nothing to be concerned about.

Other Reasons for After-ovulation Bleeding

  • Because of an increase in the blood supply to your cervix and greater blood flow to the area, you might have bleeding after having a Pap smear. You can commonly bleed after an internal exam, or sex.

  • You may have very implantation bleeding, around 11 or 12 days after fertilization. It is close to the time you may notice a missed period.

  • Miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy could also be a cause for after-ovulation bleeding. It can be an early sign of miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy, especially if accompanied by abdominal pain or cramping. About a fourth of pregnant women have some bleeding in early pregnancy, and about half of these women miscarry. But if you undergo an ultrasound that shows a heartbeat between 7 and 11 weeks, your chances of continuing the pregnancy are much greater.

To Sum it up

An early menstrual period may be caused by changes in hormone levels, which can be due to anxiety, stress, overworking, intense exercise, fatigue, or excessive weight loss. If pregnancy happens, implantation bleeding occurring a week or two after conception may happen, and sometimes may last long enough. Only doctor can check, if symptoms are worrisome or recurrent.
